America the Once Great and slipping .........

During the election season. I was stirred. I listened to the news daily and heard so much that made me mad.

Lies and lies and truths turned into lies. There were people who had positions of power and responsibility, who knew that their words mattered and that people listened. They misled the public.

Media outlets that acted with impunity in their own interests rather than serving the public good.

Public officials who demeaned themselves and their offices.

In short our great nation lost some of its greatness. We were somehow less because we acted little better than some in nations where elections are commonly stolen. True we did not resort to the obvious tactics, but what almost 50% of us believed was mostly falsehoods and lies twisted just enough to appear like the truth.

In the end... when it was over the majority was stunned and amazed. They could not believe who had won. This almost overnight emboldened some of the worst of Americans. Believing they had somehow earned the right to be Sexists, Bigots, Racists and worse. That it was OK to act out and hurt and scare other Americans.

And your leader ... he said little to nothing. His dogs said he did not support the hate crimes, but he said nothing. So, silently we go into the dark time where the righteous will be quiet and our once great nation will fall into a hole of squabbling children.


NOTE : Only the last two paragraphs were written at publication. The rest was written 4 years ago. Funny how it all applied all over again.
