For The Record : The US Economy

Anyone who has taken a college economics class knows that the larger the economy, the longer it takes to work through a cycle. This also means that attempts to change a given cycle take large portions of the cycle itself to affect and changes.

OK, now the perspective : The US economy cycles approximately every 7 to 11 years. Effecting this cycle takes roughly 3 to 5 years. These are plain truths. Yes there is variation, these are just averages.

President Obama took office towards the end of a particularly crappy time in our economy. By some accounts the second worst depression in US history. This period was created by long term forces that have been grinding along for years and precipitated by policies from the 8 year Bush administration. This means that though you can not fully blame Bush for the general economic condition, you can for its quick fall in the last one and a half to two years of his administration.

So President Obama is expected to solve this situation in two or three years which is ridiculous of course. His bailout of several key industries, though not popular, have helped soften the economic downturn. In short his policies kept it from only being the second worst depression in US history. Imagine what could have happened in light of what did happen.

Now add to this economic picture an inflexible uncooperative congress. Is much really going to get done ? Are we going to be firmly on the road to a recovery ? Of course not !

The republican controlled house of representatives has been unwilling to work with the administration for the betterment of our nation. They have effectively refuse to do their jobs and instead to follow their party in its one goal, defeating Obama and ensuring that he does not have a second term. Remember what speaker of the House, John Boehner's first stated priority was ? To ensure that President Obama does not have a second term.

So, add together an economic cycle that takes 3 to 5 years to effect and a congress that has stalled most efforts to help fix the economy. Does the current state of our nation really surprise you ?

What we need is a congress that is united with the President in doing the right thing for the country. For getting past their differences, rolling up their sleeves & working for and in the best interests of our nation.
